The school board discussed implementing a land recognition statement during board meetings.
Superintendent Dr. Micheal Funk talked about the downward trend in literacy in the district and the increased social/emotional health needs of students. A Gallup poll shows increased teacher burnout affecting teacher retention. Many teachers leave after 5 years. Dr. Funk mentioned these items in preparation for the discussion regarding school calendars.
Moving forward the board wants to approve the school calendar two years in advance. The district calendar for 2024-25 will be the same as this current year, with high school starting one week before Labor Day. The 2025-26 school calendar has a starting date a week earlier, with school starting two weeks before Labor Day, the third week of August. Calendars for 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26 are linked here.
