Cottage Grove City Council ~ October 18, 2023

During open forum, a resident complained that the city has failed to repair a large hole in a city sidewalk on East Point Douglas Rd., making it unsafe for the senior citizens who walk there.


County Commissioner Bigham introduced Analee Garlet, supervisor of the Food Scraps

Pick Up Program of Washington County Recycling and Energy. The pilot phase of the program, which turns organics into compost, has been completed and at home food scraps pick-up has expanded to all residents of Newport, North Saint Paul, Maplewood and Cottage Grove. https://www.co.washington.mn.us/2969/Food-Scraps


With the resignation of Council Member Steve Dennis ,council approved Mayor Bailey’s

recommendations for specific council members to take on the roles of Mayor Pro Tem, Economic Development Chair, Convention and Visitors Commission Chair and Investment Committee Chair through the end of 2023.


A 2023-2024 Pavement Management Project, a service charge to residents for the cost of removal of tall and noxious weeds and plants from private properties, and a Street Reconstruction and Overlay Plan with issuance of General Obligation Street Reconstruction Bonds were all adopted.


Three cannabis ordinances were approved after the city attorney presented them, citing majority support was received during a September meeting with both the Parks and Public Safety Commissions. The ordinances prohibit smoking and vaping of cannabis in public places and public parks, and enforce a penalty for underage cannabis use that is identical to alcohol violations.
