We have now had two successful voter outreach events to kick off our 2020 Voter Outreach campaign. We connected with an estimated 50 people at the Cottage Grove Farmers' Market on Thursday, August 13, and over 250 people on Saturday, August 22, at the Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf in Oakdale.
These two events enabled us to develop and test an approach that allows us to implement practices to protect the health and safety of volunteers and members and the public, and provide important information to the public. This has included conducting all activities outdoors, socially distanced and using masks. We have also emphasized conversations and providing information to enable people to take action on-line, as opposed to filling out forms on the spot.
We are looking for people (members and non-members) to volunteer for 2 - 2 1/2 hour periods to support Voter Outreach. This will include discussion and providing information to the public on voter registration; Vote From Home (absentee voting); the 2020 Census; and candidate information (Vote411 and Candidate Forums). We have information cards to support each of these topics that can be provided to interested individuals to support the discussion and additional action. The currently planned dates are:
Wednesday, 9/2 at Christian Cupboard, 11:00 - 1:30; be there at 10:30
Thursday, 9/10 at the Cottage Grove Farmers' Market; 2:30 - 6:30, be there at 1:45 (The Farmers' Market runs through 10/8).
Saturday, 9/12 at Christian Cupboard, 10 - 11:30, be there at 9:15
Tuesday, 9/22, Woodbury YMCA, 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM (National Voter Registration Day)
Wednesday, 9/23 at Christian Cupboard, 11:00 - 1:30; be there at 10:30
Thursday, 10/1 at the Cottage Grove Farmers' Market; 2:30 - 6:30, be there at 1:45 (The Farmers' Market runs through 10/8).
Please contact Paul Huffman ( paul.huffman@comcast.net) if you are interested in supporting any of these events. We are continuing to identify additional locations and dates to assist the public in participating in the democratic process and will announce additional opportunities as they arise.
